On Thursday, Jan. 7, the Georgia Power Foundation presented an engineering and technology grant to the Golden Isles College Career Academy in the amount of $13,926.10 for students to build and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs). In manufacturing industries, these industrial, digital computers are used to monitor inputs and outputs, and make logic-based decisions for automated processes or machines.
The goal of the grant is to enhance the student learning experience while equipping them with the workplace skills that our local industries need.
Out of 160 grant applications, GICCA was one of 14 recipients! Look for more information this spring as our students will be building the PLCs as part of their course work.
