The National Honor Society (NHS) announced that Griffin Lee, a high school senior at Glynn Academy and co-president of NHS, has been selected as an NHS Scholarship semifinalist. Lee was chosen from nearly 10,000 applicants and will receive a $3,200 scholarship toward higher education.
Since 1946, more than $19 million in scholarships have been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members to support college access and student success. The scholarship program is supported by the parent organization of NHS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
In the 102 years since NHS was founded in 1921, members have been making a difference in their schools and communities, and the NHS Scholarship is NASSP’s way of recognizing the most exceptional of these student leaders. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work to support the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
According to Dr. Heath Horton, National Honor Society chapter adviser, “Griffin is a true stand out; he is a born leader and selflessly gives his time to help make our community a better place to live. He has the drive to be successful at whatever he puts his mind to and the skills to make it happen. He exemplifies the four pillars of NHS and I am so proud of him for earning this scholarship.”
At Glynn Academy, Lee serves as lead officer of Science Olympiad, team captain of Glynn Academy’s Cross-Country Team, and events coordinator of the Ethnology Club. He is also actively involved in a number of other clubs and activities around campus. He has volunteered countless hours to our community through projects with Youth Environmental Leadership Program, Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, The Quintanar Running Company, Memory Matters, Safe Harbor, and many others. He looks forward to attending college next year and beginning his pursuit of a degree in Biophysics or a related field.
