The Red Terrors completed the three-peat Friday.
Glynn Academy’s boys handled Lakeside Evans 3-0 in the Region 2-6A Tournament to capture the program’s third straight region tennis title.
It’s been another dominant year for the Terrors, which earned the tournament’s top seed in the regular season and took an walkover into the championship round when semifinal opponent Grovetown forfeited the match.
So the Glynn Academy boys wouldn’t take the court until it faced off against a Lakeside team fresh off a semifinal victory over Effingham earlier in the afternoon.
The fresh legs did the Red Terrors good as they ran to a sweep of the singles matches to secure the title before pulling the doubles contests mid-match.
David Thompson scored the first point for Glynn Academy, defeating his Lakeside counterpart John Clark Cook 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 singles line before Graham Meetz polished off a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Austin Sparks at No. 2 singles to stake the Terrors to a 2-0 advantage.
With both doubles lines locked in competitive second sets, Glynn Academy turned to No. 1 singles player Cameron Gazaway to lock up the third and final point, and he obliged in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Tucker Preston.
Glynn Academy actually had both its boys and girls programs playing for region championships.
The Lady Terrors opened the day with a semifinal against South Effingham, and overcame a 1-0 deficit after the Mustangs’ Emmily Boone topped Ansley Beck 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 singles line.
The duo of Camille Daniels/Morgan Rooks tied the match back up at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Abigail Nawe/Emma Atkins at the No. 2 doubles line, and No. 1 singles player Ellie Luppino put Glynn in front with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Halie Harper.
Leading 2-1, the GA girls closed out matches at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles at the same time — Aubree Bisesi defeating Allie Allmond 6-3, 6-1, and Kat Cranz/Sarah Elizabeth Johnson toppling Tessa Conner/Addison Dekarek 6-4, 6-4 — to advance to the region championship.
