As you may be aware, Tropical Storm Debby has formed off the Gulf Coast of Florida and is currently expected to bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding to the Golden Isles.
Based on the latest forecast model and continued communication with local emergency management officials, we have decided to delay the start of school to allow time for the storm to pass and to inspect school buildings for weather-related damage.
Here’s what you should know:
- Monday, Aug. 5 and Tuesday, Aug. 6: All schools and district offices will be closed. Staff will work from home to prepare for school.
- Wednesday, Aug. 7: Staff will return to work, and Open House will be held.
- Elementary School: 4:00-6:00 p.m.
- Middle School/GICCA: 5:00-7:00 p.m.
- High School/GLC: 6:00-8:00 p.m.
We anticipate starting the first day of the 2024-2025 school year on Thursday, Aug. 8.
We will continue to monitor the track of this storm and communicate any updates through ParentSquare, our automated phone/email alert system, on our district website, Facebook page and through our media partners.
As always, please keep a watchful eye on updates about Tropical Storm Debby from the Glynn County Emergency Management Agency and National Weather Service in Jacksonville.
