Your Safety, Our Priority: GCSP at a Glance

Welcome to the Glynn County School Police (GCSP) Department. At GCSP, we are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our students, staff, families and visitors. Our dedicated team of professionally certified officers and support staff work tirelessly to create a secure learning environment across all our campuses.

Our Commitment to Safety  GCSS School Resource Officers
  • Supportive Board of Education (BOE): Our BOE funds a professionally certified and dedicated police department.
  • Armed Officers on Every Campus: Each campus, including elementary schools, has an armed GCSP officer, which is a rare and significant measure.
  • Advanced Training: GCSP officers train at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) and are highly skilled in responding to active threats.
  • Trauma Preparedness: Our officers, along with our school nurses, are “trauma trained” to handle mass-casualty events, and our schools are equipped with multiple bleeding control kits.

Proactive Threat Management
  • Threat Assessment Model: We utilize a US Secret Service-styled threat assessment model to identify and interrupt potential threats.
  • Collaborative Efforts: We work closely with state, local, and federal partners to investigate threats, share information, and cover highly attended events.
  • Training and Planning: Networking with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, FLETC, our local fire departments and the office of the State Fire Marshal ensures continuous training and planning.

Enhanced Security Measures
  • Campus Monitors: Additional campus monitors at high schools provide extra surveillance.
  • Layered Security: Our schools feature secure front doors leading to a vestibule, requiring visitors to be “buzzed-in” to enter.
  • Locked Doors: We strive to keep all exterior doors locked and ensure classroom instruction occurs behind locked doors.

Central Command and Communication
  • GCSP Central Command Center: Capable of monitoring over 1,000 cameras and communicating with all public safety radios in the county.
  • Professional Grade Radios: All schools are equipped with radios for rapid communication with the GCSP Command Center and each other.

Emergency Preparedness
  • Regular Drills: We conduct various drills, including lockdown, escape/evade, and counter drills.
  • Staff Empowerment: Any staff member can initiate emergency protocols to save time in a crisis.
  • Centegix CrisisAlert System: Implemented in June 2021, this system provides every staff member with immediate access to alert authorities and initiate lockdown procedures.

Continuous Improvement
  • Expert Networking: Our Chief of Police and school safety team network weekly with nationally recognized school safety analysts to explore new and innovative safety ideas at no cost.

We are proud of our comprehensive approach to school safety and remain dedicated to protecting our school community. #strongerglynn
