Superintendent's Office
Meet Our Superintendent
Mike Blackerby is in his first year as Superintendent of Glynn County Schools, stepping into the role after successfully serving the district for several years. He initially joined the school system in 2021 as Executive Director of Operations and was subsequently appointed Assistant Superintendent in July 2024. He was unanimously named the sole finalist to succeed his mentor, former Superintendent Scott Spence.
Superintendent Blackerby is focused on driving progress through three key initiatives: implementing strategic rezoning plans, addressing the critical national and regional challenge of teacher and staff retention, and developing students who are highly prepared to enter the workforce or pursue higher education.
Under Mr. Blackerby's leadership focus, Glynn County Schools continues its tradition of outstanding student success. The system consistently surpasses state averages on the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). Graduation rates are at an all-time high, and both SAT and ACT scores consistently exceed state and national averages. In recognition of its commitment to preparing students for local industries, Glynn County Schools was one of only three Georgia systems in 2025 to receive the prestigious Economic Development Partnership designation from the Georgia Department of Education. These accomplishments are a powerful testament to the hard work and dedication of the district’s students, educators, and staff.
A proud alum of Brunswick High School, Mr. Blackerby began his career in education in Camden County, serving as a physical education teacher and coach for golf, track, and football. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Georgia, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia Southern University, as well as an educational specialist degree in Instructional Technology from Valdosta State University. His varied leadership experience includes key roles in Camden County Schools, such as Principal of Woodbine Elementary School, Director of Transportation, and Director of Operations.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Blackerby enjoys boating and fishing with his family. He has been married for 29 years to Kendra Murray Blackerby, also a Brunswick High graduate. They are proud parents to twins, John and Kennison, who will both be graduating from the University of Georgia this spring. His deep roots in the community and extensive experience in educational leadership position him perfectly to guide Glynn County Schools forward.
If you would like to contact Mr. Blackerby, please reach out to his administrative assistant, Mrs. Pearl Britt.
