About Dr. Spence

Dr. Scott Spence was appointed Superintendent of the Glynn County School System in July 2020.  Prior to this appointment, he served as a retired 49% district mathematics coordinator (6-12) for the Glynn County School System. Dr. Scott Spence

Dr. Spence has 32 years of experience in education, all in Glynn County. During his tenure he has served as an athletics director, middle and high school principal, middle school assistant principal, and high school coach and mathematics teacher.
 
Dr. Spence is involved throughout the Glynn County community, volunteering time to and providing opportunities for all children.  He is a member of the Brunswick First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and as a high school and adult Sunday school teacher. He is also a current member of the Exchange Club of Brunswick, Brunswick Rotary Club, and the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors.  In addition, he has also served on the Golden Isles Bowl Board and the Gathering Place Board of Directors.  Dr. Spence has also volunteered as a youth coach for the Glynn County Recreation Department and the Golden Isles Soccer Association.

While in college, Dr. Spence served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and earned a meritorious promotion for being named the Honor Graduate from the United States Marine Corps Administrative Clerk School in Camp Pendleton, Ca.
 
Dr. Spence earned his undergraduate degree in secondary education with a concentration in mathematics from Valdosta State University. He later earned his Master’s, Specialist and Doctorate degrees in educational leadership and administration from Georgia Southern University.
 
When not at work, Dr. Spence enjoys playing golf, fishing, boating, attending middle and high school athletic events and spending time with his family.
