Glynn Academy couldn’t keep a good thing going Friday night.
A week after knocking off Brunswick High to claim the city championship, the Red Terrors fell to Greenbrier 26-15 in a Region 1-AAAAAA game up in Augusta.
The loss most likely ends any playoff hopes for the Terrors who fell to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the region with the loss to the Wolfpack who are now also 3-5 and 2-3.
Glynn entered the week No. 37 in the Postseason Rankings that will be used to set the 32-team state playoff field in Class AAAAAA after the regular season. The Terrors figure to drop in the rankings and likely won’t be able to get into the top-32 even if they were to win their last two games.
The Terrors struck first on Friday night, going ahead 8-0 in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Caiden Robinson. Max Noonan would run for a two-point conversion as well.
The scoring march by Glynn covered 63 yards in 11 plays.
Greenbrier scored to get within 8-7 early in the second quarter and went ahead midway through the quarter on a 51-yard TD run by Carter Ellis.
The Terrors would fall into a deeper hole before halftime when they lost a fumble at their own 15-yard line on a pitch-play in the closing moments of the second quarter. That led to a third score by the Wolfpack who would carry at 20-8 lead into the break.
The home team had just missed a field goal after driving deep in Glynn territory.
GA pulled within 20-15 on a 5-yard run by Noonan late in the third quarter, but couldn’t get any closer or regain the lead.
The Terrors drove down to the Greenbrier 31-yard line midway through the fourth quarter, but gave the ball up on downs when the Wolfpack stuffed a fourth-down play by the Terrors.
Greenbrier punched in a final TD with 2:27 to go on a successful pass play on fourth-and-4 from 15 yards out.
The Terrors committed three turnovers in the game with an interception and two fumbles.
Ian Pomiechowski led Glynn with 138 yards rushing.
Glynn will play at South Effingham next week. The Mustangs defeated Brunswick High 35-31 Friday night at Glynn County Stadium, likely ending the Pirates’ playoff hopes as well.
