The Glynn Academy Red Terrors dropped a second straight game on the road Friday night, losing 19-11 at South Effingham in Region 1-AAAAAA play.
The loss was the second in as many weeks for the Terrors since their victory over Brunswick High in the annual City Championship Game.
Glynn (3-6 overall, 2-4 region) fell at Greenbrier last week, 26-15.
South Effingham secured a spot in the Class AAAAAA state playoffs with a victory, their second in a row over a Glynn County school. Last week, the Mustangs (7-2, 4-2) won 35-31 over Brunswick at Glynn County Stadium.
They came into the week ranked No. 22 in the Postseason Rankings that will determine the 32-team field for the state playoffs after next week when the regular-season ends.
GA’s chances to make the field ended last week with the loss to Greenbrier.
The Terrors grabbed the early lead Friday night when Max Noonan scored from a yard out on the first drive of the game.
Glynn also converted a jump-pass for two points to go in front 8-0.
However, Noonan went down with an injury in the second quarter and never returned to the game for the Terrors who went with Ayden Wilson at quarterback for the remainder of the game.
He mostly took snaps from a single-wing formation for the rest of the night until Glynn got back in the flexbone that it normally runs late in the game.
South Effingham scored twice in the second quarter to hold a 12-8 cushion at halftime. The home team went 80 yards in the final moments of the first half, scoring a touchdown to grab the lead at the break.
The teams combined for three turnovers in the second quarter. Glynn muffed a punt while the Mustangs lost a fumble and also threw an interception.
The Terrors pulled within 12-11 early in the fourth quarter on a 34-yard field goal by Patrick Coyle. GA had to settle for the field goal after having the ball with a goal-to-go situation, only to have three procedure penalties back them up.
Glynn set up for a go-ahead field goal on its next offensive series, but the Terrors couldn’t get the snap down and never got off a kick. Noonan is usually the holder for Glynn as well.
The Mustangs would score the final points of the night with just under three minutes to play to stretch their lead to the 19-11 final score.
The Terrors went to the flexbone after that and drove into South Effingham territory, but an interception ended the drive and sealed the win for the Mustangs with 1:29 remaining in the contest.
GA will close out the season next Friday at home against Grovetown.
